We read in the periodical, Report Of Progress: "To teach us how to overcome the temptations of appetite, Christ has given us the record of his own experience of nearly six weeks of fasting, followed by his wonderful victory over the power of Satan. In this experience Christ broke the power of appetite for all who will accept the aid of the divine power on which he relied." Isn't that wonderful? Christ broke the power of appetite for you and for me, and, if we accept his help, the divine power on which he relied will be ours. Jesus did not use his own power to overcome temptation, but he relied on the power of God, and that power has been offered to us. We can have the assurance that we are going to succeed in our efforts to change our habits and lose weight forever. So we do not have to keep trying to lose weight on our own-to lose, may be a few pounds, and then gain it all back. We can have power from God to say NO. Power to change our habits and to live happily, without the guilt feeling we get every time we eat too much.
Now, as you accept this power and start on the road to successful weight control, remember that Satan will not let you have it easy. He will tempt you many times to get off the program. The Devil wants to keep us enslaved through life long bad habits, and that is why many have been unable to lose weight time after time. Then, żAre we to despair? Not at all. We find what to do in the book, Our High Calling, page 41: "Satan may try to bind you to his car as a helpless soul. But shout in victory that Christ has made you a free man." Yes, shout in victory: Christ has made me free!!! He has made me a free man!! a free woman!!! Do not accept defeat, not even as a possibility. You are set free by the Son of God Himself!!! Jesus sets us free from the bondage of Satan, and we have control over our actions and over our weight. Yes, divine power is available for you to use, the same power that raises the sun every morning, that brings the rain and makes the earth produce and flourish. Will you accept this help?
Now, What if you are not a believer? Do not be afraid. God is a God of love, and He blesses every one, believers and unbelievers alike. But if you are a believer, you can be certain that God will help you, because God's Word says that gluttony is a sin, and Jesus has the remedy for sin. In John 1:29, it says, "The next day John sees Jesus coming unto him and says, Behold the lamb of God which takes away the sin of the world." Yes, Jesus came to take away sin, and the good news is, if overeating and gluttony are sins, he will take them away. Jesus will help you to follow the program so you can lose weight with His help.
